Toe out alignment

I’m fairly new to owning a 4Runner but I have a question regarding the alignment of the front wheels. When looking at the 4Runner from the front, the toe out is very pronounced. After driving my 4Runner for a month I’ve noticed it’s pretty damn squirrelly on the highway. Is this normal or should I see if I need an alignment?

 

You need an alignment.

 

More positive caster will make it less squirrelly. Supposed to be around 3-3.5° I believe. I have seen some steering rack bushings that go bad sooner on the newer 4runners. I think quality of materials is declining.

 

You don't want toe-out on a 4R for proper handling. Straight ahead to slight toe-in is the goal. Your inner tread will wear quickly w/ toe-out too.

 

I took it to the dealer yesterday and they did an alignment, although it still looks toe out to me. I looked at several other 4Runners and Tacomas, none looked as severe as mine.

 

You can easily check the toe in/out with a tape measure and a bit of patience.

 

I hope the rack bushings don't fail that quick on a 2024. If so this would be a major issue coming down the line.

 

I can't think of any vehicle that neds toe out.

A certain amount of toe in is needed to keep the tires from scrubbing on turns. The outside tire will actually be running at a smaller radius than the inside.
