Right on! We may be checking out Ohio as a possible place for partial retirement.

I saw a picture that was a double Hulk Hogan mustache. And that is exactly what the grille looks like. Ruined it for me

I will have TOYOTA letters on the grill, I will keep you guys posted. Just dropped a deposit on one and it will be one long wait. 4Runner and Grand Cherokee will be gone, and my Ram 2500 and this bad boy Lexus will be my only vehicles. Hopefully a TJ comes home soon too.

I don’t care how it looks. But the motor options and that annoyingly big screen are a major turn off.

NA motor or a diesel and I would be singing a different tune, even if it was the dog 3.5 motor from the 3rd gen Tacoma.

    no manual option.

why not a low tech package? I’d be fine with hand crank windows.

def don’t like anything with the Toyota saftey sense nonsense.

    I’ll keep what I have.

I looked at the GX Overtrail and decided on the 24 Pro. At the end of the day, It was going to be over 20k more expensive, takes premium, insurance is twice as expensive and repairs/maint is way more expensive. I'd be afraid to use it. It is the best out of the box option out there tough. Wife might get a lower trim in the next year or so.

I like that these will still be assembled mostly in Japan - QC is always better from there. I think I'm down to sell my 5th gen for the new stuff - let's see what it'll sell for HAHAHA

Wow… you guys are so busy #*$$*#. I wonder when you drive your 4Runners? Last week I woke up 10 pages and bans one morning. Now I Just came back from a weekend camping (Boy Scout adult leader training) to 20 alerts..l probably all telling me what an idiot I am.

no time to reply to all the complainers as I have a busy week of work and then next weekend it’s off to the woods again, going to one of those Overland Experts 4x4 training classes.. Anyway it’s starting to get old reading people who obviously never took a physics course say “you can’t X, it’s physics” it stopped being funny to 10 pages ago….

I guess I only put 350 miles on mine this weekend, so kind of a slow weekend. :D

You missed out on some very insightful posts. Some of which suggested that folks who care about fuel economy should buy a Prius, or other variations of this very original idea that has never come up on these forums before.

It's been quite amusing seeing how upset some folks are about something we've known was happening for so long already.

Yeah I'm catching up on them all between meetings. Very nicely preserved 1990 4Runner was shown in the 5v6 thread... Such a shame really... its only 4 cycliners... probably wont last another 270k, you know how bad 4 cylinders is ;)

It's funny how N/A 4 bangers that you have to beat the shit out of can last forever, but a boosted 4 making modest power will not last.

The video mainly showed us the Trail Hunter model. So yeah "LOL to yurself" those look angled to me. Geez these kids....What can you expect from a screen name YoBruhhitsme. Sounds like a teen that probably doesn't own one.
Get back to your legos. :smack:They got nothing better than to hate comment someones post. All I saw was one video and from my impression of the video gave comment.

Why can’t everyone just get along?!

Starting to sound like a Jeep forum around here…

5th gen for now. I could see owning a 6th gen someday. When I make my millions.

I guess I don't get all these assumptions that the 4cyl will not be reliable. Toyota has been building 4 cyl hybrids for a minute now. 465lb @ 1700RPM vs 278lb @ 4500 on mine? Yeah I'll take that 4cyl

I think the trepidation with the turbo has some basis of concern. I’ve operated turbine aircraft my whole career and turbines require one thing no matter the application… sustainable high rpms. Those little bitty turbos get a workout for sure. But the actual engineering for turbines small to large has been around for a long while. I suspect Toyota put together a satisfactory little monster. It probably whines and sounds like its gonna shit itself but that’s just what they do. Im kinda excited to try one someday.

I am really late to the thread start and I did not read the previous 12 pages for the sake of time. My two cents about the 6th gen 4Runner -

Powertrain and suspension - I knew the V6 and 5AT were gone so it's unfair to negatively comment on the new engine being a turbo or the tranny having too many gears. I think HP/torque numbers are nice but at the cost of potential reliability the tradeoff is questionable. This reliability thing won't be answered for years so speculating now is pointless. The buffed suspension stuff I saw looked largely gimmicky. You can keep your Fox multi-adjustment shocks and stick them right next to your Old Man Emu stuff. I'd like to choose which aftermarket brands I spend money on rather than it being price-bloated from the factory that way. The price is already going to be bad enough.

Exterior - Not bad. Some redesigns I hate (the more I see the new GX550, the more I don't care for it.) This one I think is decent. I've never been a fan of pulling design features from previous generations for the sake of nostalgia (never looks as good as the original) but the 1st/2nd gen rear quarter window looks fine enough. The front end is not the most attractive and neither is the rear end but I think that for most new cars these days. The dimensions got bigger and I think they should have been smaller. I detest the lines on the doors. The retention of the power rear window is lovely. The front air dam on some trims for EPA numbers is preposterous.

Interior - Here is where the 6th gen fails. 2nd row seats fixed..really? They don't fold completely flat...really? The raised floor in the back, the TOYOTA lettering on the dash board, the upright laptop otherwise called an infotainment screen, the grab handle next to the passenger's left leg. I hate all of it. Some of that may be trim-specific but these are all demerits, not additions.

Overall, I would much rather have the 5th gen, with all its faults, than the new 6th gen. Personally, I am thankful I bought the GX460 and an out of the decision game permanently. I love my V8 and think I made the right choice for me.

Interesting. This could be good news for anyone looking to trade in for something new.
