I'm leaning toward mechanical protection like this one - garant-locks.com/product/block but it seems to be Russian and I don't think it can be shipped to Canada. Have somebody seen anything similar in North America?

Interesting. One thing to note is the Ravelco plug was installed very visible and easy to access. My plug is way up under and behind the dash and not easily accessible or visible.

As has been said here, a determined thief is going to get it one way or another.

Looks like the bike handlebar extensions. lol

If it has a regular key i can pick it easily. Maybe swap your steering wheel for a removable one.

From description on the site I highly doubt that lock can be drilled or picked easily. But concept itself seems to be interesting. No interfering with truck electronics and warranty, very low probability of failure and it will take a lot of effort to saw it off. I would probably put this thing with combination of starter kill switch if I could find something like this : )

Is it really a deterrent? It would prevent the truck from being stolen, but surely wouldnt prevent ppl from beating it up trying...
Anyhow, I have placed an airtag somewhwre in it, at least helps me locate it when I forget where I parked.

I put my keys in an altoid can when I remember to. I have tested it, with the keys in the can, I can walk up to the car and grab the handle, doesnt unlock.

Unfortunately, they can add another key via OBD port. You need to prevent that as well. I installed fake OBD port with power pins connected, but that won't help either if they trace the wire and find the real port.

Juat Amazing! On a different but related note, how to secure the fuel door?

when you removed OBD port form the bracket - was just two tabs on sides which need to be pressed or there's something else keeps it in place?

    Bewn thinking, is it possinle
to wire up the data or power pins of the obd port to some inverter that does like a few 100 volts thus frying anybodys devices trying to mess with my truck? m

I use a magnetic CB antenna with a long international orange ribbon on it. Sticks up about 5 ft from top of vehicle. LOL

Not a good idea, as you can't be certain that only bad guys would try to use a dummy port. More so, it is not good idea to put high voltage right into a cabin, as you can't be certain (e.g., crash) that it will stay contained.

I think you need to secure wires somehow as well. The thing is that I made similar bracket but my 4Runner got stolen anyway. Thieves didn't use any power tools, I think they just cut data wires and connected it directly to their device via alligator clips. It took about 10 minutes for them to start the truck.

My "22 ORP doesn't have a can bus connection behind the headlights so I went this route. No lock to break off. Made from OEM connectors. The dummy port will power a scanner but no computer access is possible. The 6ft extension allowed me to relocate and hide the real data port to a place of my chosing. Took about a hour to install. You wouldn't know anything was out of the ordinary.

This shit must be highly regionalized, because I quite literally leave my fob in the truck all the time (and my keys before that) and no one has stolen it yet. I can't even fathom rigging up a bear trap, putting a padlock on my OBD port, or installing some jerk-and-run system requiring me to remove a component to render my car inoperable. I think most of you guys need to invest the time you are spending on security concerns on researching better places to live and play.

My neighbor lost new Taco last year. Had to wait another 6 months for replacement. I consider my neighborhood to be quiet and out of the way.

I agree, I found place when I live for 25 years where I wouldn't worry to much when I left truck unlocked and forgot my wallet in it. But in the past few years situation worsened dramatically, I plan to move but I can't do it right now. And there's no guarantees that crime will stay out of new area for long.

Up here in the White North it's getting real bad around the big cities. You have to do everything you can slow thiefs down cause the insurance companies will rob you blind anyways for the thefts. The majority of stolen vehicles end up in shipping containers going out of the Port of Montreal. Lots of cases of people tracking down their vehicles in Africa or the Middle East. This poor guy is an example of what insurance companies do to us.

I saw a special on this on CBC. How is it they cannot catch these cargo ships prior to leaving Montreal? Loading a ship with a bunch of stolen vehicles should be an easy target.

Too poor to buy anything now
I'm 75 years old and very "old school". If I caught someone stealing or stripping my vehicle, I'd make sure they couldn't talk about it later.
